Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
